So…This is How It’s Going to Be?

If I’m not continually writing and publishing new posts, you’re going to stop coming? (Errr…well, I guess I wouldn’t blame you).
So…this blog sits at www.wordflare.com, because that’s where I direct blogger to post it. I could also be at wordflare.com, even though it’s exactly the same domain (in other words, if you go there, you won’t see anything). If I send it to wordflare.com, then you won’t see anything at www.wordflare.com. I want people (and search engines) to be able to use either one. How do I do that? Do I forward domain wordflare.com (no content) to www.wordflare.com (content) or vice versa?
Oh, by the way. I bought my son an old piece of software (a PC game) that requires DirectX 3A to run. Any idea how to make this work on an XP machine?

o/t mainly
I couldn’t get to your site from my Beijing hotel. I could get to mine, plus wikifray, plus tenaciousk’s .. but then I couldn’t. That is, the second or third time I tried the ones I could get to, they stopped working. Coincidence or not, I’m not sure.
So discussion with our guide regarding Chinese censorship (totally o/t now, sorry) .. yes, it’s a game, the gov’t censors are doing their best to keep the lid on, and here’s one way they get around it (applications![?)] for now: open a DOS window and ‘ping’ the url address you want to visit; that gets you the IP address, then use that in your location bar instead of web name.
just some trivia …
I think I’ve mention this before, as a way of getting around censors. But I have to think that they’re on to it by now.
Good to see you back.
christ schad, they’re up to direct x 10 now. i poked about a bit on MSDN, and it looks like directX 8 is fully backward compatible. not sure about 9, which is likely what you have. but, considering directx 3 shipped with win95, and that OS is no longer supported, i’m guessing your best bet is to just try installing and see if it runs.

Yeah, it’s that old, but it wasn’t obvious before I bought it.
After all, the show is still on.
Errr…install what from where?
the game from the CD (or floppy). i’m going on the assumption that directx 3 is listed in the minimum requirements. it should still run with directX 9. but the only effective way to test that is to try. it’s not going to break your machine though (well, it shouldn’t, but you can always use XP’s auto-restore feature to take an image of your machine, just in case). from the five minutes of research i did on this, it looks like older interfaces, while disabled for new development, are grandfathered in for backward compatibility (according to info on the directX 9 SDK).
Give me a little credit! I know how to install a game from a CD.
Installed it - got error message. Resolved that problem - got new error message re: DirectX 3A expired 1996. Don’t know how to fix.
think i might have found something. it’s for a different game, and for making it compatible with NT, but it might do the trick for you.
also, looks like you can search for the specfic game on the main page. hope that helps.
I got the same result in compatibility mode as the bad result on this page.
that’s all i’ve got. if you haven’t already, try removing anything that might have installed in the aborted attempt. maybe try running a registry cleaner too. then give it another whirl. other than that, i can’t think of anything off the top of my head. i’m fairly certain the game will be off anyone’s support list, given its age.
oh, also, i didn’t mean to imply you didn’t know how to install from CD. was just trying to clarify. poorly, it seems. chalk it up to multitasking.

Your help is appreciated.
I’ve had similar questions about grantmillermedia.com.
But I’m too lazy to figure them out.
Hi, Grant. Nice to see you here.
The www thing is just convenience, mostly. I’ll spend three weeks fixing it because I’m too lazy to type in www (d’oh!).
The game thing is to do with a broken-hearted 7 year old with big brown eyes (and no, it’s not my inner child - it’s my outer child).
