You have got to admire a man who knows what obsesses him and just goes with it.
Actually, Tom is providing a valuable service. Too often, things like the Ivory Billed Woodpecker discovery get into the popular press, where they are taken as fact (cold fusion, anyone?). Even if Tom Nelson turns out to be wrong, he will have been wrong for all of the right reasons.
