Are Bloggers Writers?

No. We lack the self-discipline and craftsmanship of the professional writer. Some of us may attain that level through practise, focus and hard work, but the role of writer is not inherent in the role of blogger.
Writers write, as the saying goes and, as Stephen King noted, the best of them would write even if it were illegal. Writing as a vocation entails the need to write. In that sense, I suppose, some few bloggers have a writing vocation, even if they lack the ability to make writing their profession.
But there’s another angle, too. The professional writer writes with an ear to what the reader will hear. The blogger writes primarily for the blogger (God knows I do).
