On The Lot

Now that some of the weaker entrants have been weeded out, we are starting to see some real talent.

This week’s entries were short comedies, and two really stuck out as being polished, professional, and ready for prime time.  Plus, they made me laugh, which always gets you points.

First up is Dr.-in-Law.  It’s a tad cliché, but very well-executed.  The director was Shalini Kantayya, whose other films in this competition have also been very good.

The second and, in my mind, the best entry is Die Hardly Working.  It’s geeky and it’s silly, but it’s hilarious.  This one is by Zach Lipovsky - easily the favourite to win the whole thing.

This is the one reality show where the contestants actually make the show what it is.  The judges are, frankly, a bit lame - a surprise from Gary Marshall and Carrie Fisher.  They really don’t add much to the show.
